Over the past 25 years, Dr. Joseph has been focused on Urban Pedagogy and Curriculum Design Theory. His work in Urban Pedagogy began when he was a faculty member at Chicago State University and the University of Colorado at Denver. During this time, he served as the principal investigator for the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the Governor's office. This work aimed to address systemic inequities in schools that disproportionately affected African American students.
Dr. Joseph has a proven track record of fostering teamwork, collegiality, relationship building, and mentoring. He worked with over 20 schools, 3,000 community members, and approximately 300 key stakeholders to gather findings, identify concerns, problem-solve, and make recommendations to close achievement gaps. His team demonstrated the ability to provide vision, strategic thinking, coherent planning, and evaluation.
Dr. Joseph has made systemic change in many organizational settings through the lens of Urban Pedagogy and Curriculum Design. He has helped constituents overcome resistance to change, reconsider long-held beliefs, and come to the table with their authentic selves. Dr. Joseph's philosophical approach has always been based on respect, thoughtful listening, empathy, and care. He recognizes the need for psychological safety to move campuses and institutional communities toward becoming more humane and inclusive organizations.
